WHO WE ARE
Doretta Katzter Goldberg
President
Doretta Katzter Goldberg established
College Directions, LLC in 2004 after working with Brown University
admissions for almost twenty years. She graduated from Brown in 1976
with a degree in American Civilization and a certification in secondary
education. In 1979 she graduated from New York University School Of
Law. As an attorney she worked at law firms in both New York City
and Nassau County including her own law office, which she opened in
1984 and later merged with a larger firm. Ms. Goldberg’s practice
focused primarily on real estate and general commercial matters and
involved a wide range of transactions and litigation for individuals,
professional practices and private and publicly held businesses of
varying sizes. Over the course of almost two decades of practicing
law she gained extensive experience in corporate and legal communications,
contract drafting, business counseling, negotiation and civil litigation
covering a wide range of issues. She spoke for and represented clients
not only in court but also before government agencies, business associates,
customers, shareholders, employees and legal adversaries. Her legal
practice enabled her to develop a highly sophisticated level of expertise
in organizational skills and in all forms of written and oral communication.
In 2001 she obtained a certificate in Public Relations from New York
University.
From 1986 until opening
College Directions, LLC, Ms. Goldberg acted as a liaison between Brown
University and local high schools, serving as an alumni interviewer
and area chairperson of the Brown Alumni Schools Committee. Her responsibilities
included interviewing applicants, supervising volunteers, coordinating
admissions events and activities on Long Island and appearing as Brown’s
representative at college fairs and on college panels. Her involvement
provided her with a thorough familiarity with and understanding of
the college admissions process. To continue her professional development, in July 2004 she attended the Practices and Principles Institute in Educational Consulting conducted by the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and is currently a Professional Member of that organization. She is also a member of About half of her professional time is devoted to researching schools, visiting campuses and attending conferences with colleagues and college admissions’ personnel.
Ms. Goldberg is married
to a cardiologist and has two children. One is a graduate of Eugene
Lang College at The New School and the other currently attends Brown
University.
