Doretta Katzter Goldberg

Doretta Katzter Goldberg established College Directions, LLC in 2004 after working with Brown University admissions for almost twenty years. She graduated from Brown in 1976 with a degree in American Civilization and a certification in secondary education. In 1979 she graduated from New York University School Of Law. As an attorney she worked at law firms in both New York City and Nassau County including her own law office, which she opened in 1984 and later merged with a larger firm. Ms. Goldberg’s practice focused primarily on real estate and general commercial matters and involved a wide range of transactions and litigation for individuals, professional practices and private and publicly held businesses of varying sizes. Over the course of almost two decades of practicing law she gained extensive experience in corporate and legal communications, contract drafting, business counseling, negotiation and civil litigation covering a wide range of issues. She spoke for and represented clients not only in court but also before government agencies, business associates, customers, shareholders, employees and legal adversaries. Her legal practice enabled her to develop a highly sophisticated level of expertise in organizational skills and in all forms of written and oral communication. In 2001 she obtained a certificate in Public Relations from New York University.

From 1986 until opening College Directions, LLC, Ms. Goldberg acted as a liaison between Brown University and local high schools, serving as an alumni interviewer and area chairperson of the Brown Alumni Schools Committee. Her responsibilities included interviewing applicants, supervising volunteers, coordinating admissions events and activities on Long Island and appearing as Brown’s representative at college fairs and on college panels. Her involvement provided her with a thorough familiarity with and understanding of the college admissions process. To continue her professional development, in July 2004 she attended the Practices and Principles Institute in Educational Consulting conducted by the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and is currently a Professional Member of that organization. She is also a member of About half of her professional time is devoted to researching schools, visiting campuses and attending conferences with colleagues and college admissions’ personnel.

Ms. Goldberg is married to a cardiologist and has two children. One is a graduate of Eugene Lang College at The New School and the other currently attends Brown University.
